Many rural residents rely on private wells and cisterns as their primary source of drinking water. A cistern is used most often in areas where wells do not yield enough water or have historically produced water that is unsuitable for drinking due to taste, odour, and/or mineral characteristics. For areas without access to municipal water, cisterns store collected rainwater or hauled water for all household needs. A properly constructed cistern or one filled with municipal water delivered by a water hauler approved by the municipality should provide water that is safe to drink, but a cistern requires periodic inspection, cleaning, and disinfection. Poorly maintained cisterns are easily contaminated. Cistern owners are responsible for the condition of their cistern and proper maintenance.
A well water trickling system, also known as a trickle fill or low-yield well system, is designed to address issues with low-producing wells by storing water in a cistern and using a secondary pump to supply water to the house. This water trickling system helps maintain consistent water pressure and prevents the well from being depleted during periods of high water demand.
A cistern and a well water trickling system allow the drinking water well to operate at its own level of efficiency. Wells with significantly low yield can deliver a lot of water adequate enough to sustain most households, when the well pump and its control system consistently pump a low volume of water from the well 24 hours a day, seven days a week. At just one litre per minute, the low-yield well can slowly fill a cistern with 1,440 litres of water a day. Then the supply pump in the cistern will deliver reliable water on demand.
We can complete the design of a required trickling well water system within 2 days and may cost $1,975⁺ʰˢᵗ.
